About Me

Katie Rees is a sophomore from Columbia, MD studying Government & Politics and Theatre at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Her passions include expression through theatre, particularly song and musical theatre, human rights policy, and foreign policy. She is interested in disability advocacy, especially regarding support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Katie enjoys singing and acting and working on this craft while studying the roots of theatre and its significance within society.
After completing her undergraduate degree, she plans to travel before returning to school to complete either a Masters in Social Work or Juris Doctorate degree at a law school.
As a College Park Arts Scholar, Katie hopes to delve into the essence and significance of authentic art and its effect on both the audience and the artist. She wishes to make meaningful connections with her peers, who have a variety of unique careers they are pursuing, to give her a more open mind in entering into the work world. Katie plans to be involved in giving back to the larger College Park community through Catholic Terps and Terpthon, adopting leadership roles in order to encourage her peers to take part in the many service opportunities available to students. She also plans to encourage her female students to take care of their mental and physical health through her club CHAARG, fostering overall wellness in college women. Her academic goals include graduating with a mastery in research skills and having explored which of her passions she can explore within her future career.
